Tulsa Softball Travels to Missouri State and UTSA

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team (19-26, 7-14 The American) hits the road for four straight games starting with a midweek game against Missouri State on Tuesday night before heading to San Antonio to take on the UTSA Roadrunners in a conference series.

TULSA vs. THE FIELD
Missouri State (14-30, 12-9 MVC) – This will be the second meeting of the season for Tulsa and Missouri State as they met earlier this season in the I-10 Border Classic in Beaumont, Texas. Missouri State came away with a 6-0 victory. This will be the 53^rd all-time meeting between these two programs.

UTSA (18-28, 4-17 The American) – The Golden Hurricane is 12-8 all-time against the Roadrunners and 5-2 in road games in the series. Tulsa won the series against UTSA last year at Collins Family Softball Complex. TU came away with a 10-0 (5 inn.), 8-0 (5 inn.), wins before dropping the series finale. The last time these two teams met in San Antonio was during the 2016 season when Tulsa went to UTSA Classic. TU came away with two wins over UTSA during that tournament.

THE SEASON SO FAR
The Golden Hurricane is 19-26, 7-14 in The American, heading into this week's games at Missouri State and weekend series at UTSA. The Golden Hurricane snapped its losing streak on Friday with a 5-2 victory over Wichita State.

Maci Cole has upped her batting average to a team-best .336. She's now driven in 26 runs, second to Celeste Wood's 31. Her nine home runs pace the Hurricane, and she leads the Hurricane in slugging percentage, .640, on-base percentage, .485, and walks, 32.

As a team, TU is batting .249 with 43 doubles, six triples, 26 home runs and 161 driven in. Tulsa collectively holds a .347 on-base percentage and .370 slugging percentage.

In the circle, Maura Moore's 4.03 ERA is the team low. She holds a 13-13 record with ten complete games and two shutouts. In 132.0 innings of work, Moore has struck out 82 batters. Alexa Hopkins and Brinly Maples have picked up the majority of the rest of the innings, tossing 68.0 and 67.2, respectively. Hopkins holds a 5.66 ERA with 48 strikeouts, while Maples has struck out 37 batters and has a 6.31 ERA.

Softball to Space
Senior Maci Cole has accomplished a lot since she has stepped foot on the TU campus. Over her senior year, Cole has worked on a mechanical engineering project, which is part of a NASA initiative. On the field, Cole leads Tulsa to batting average (.336) and home runs (9). She enters this week on a 17-game hitting streak that started in the second game of a doubleheader at Western Carolina.

COLE TAKES A WALK
Senior infielder Maci Cole has drawn a team-leading 32 walks at the plate this season, which is the second most in The American. Her 0.71 walks per game is tied for second in the league and 50^th in the NCAA.

MAGNIFICENT MAURA
Senior pitcher Maura Moore has been busy, throwing 132.0 innings, almost half of Tulsa's innings for the season and the most by any Tulsa pitcher. She the fourth in The American for innings pitched and 63^rd nationally. She leads the conference in games started (28) and tied for complete games (10), ranking 3^rd and 84^th in the NCAA, respectively.

THE LAST TIME
The last time the Golden Hurricane took to the field was Friday when they hosted Wichita State. TU came away with a 5-2 win over the Shockers.

Celeste Wood and Paige Knight led Tulsa at the plate, each having two hits. Wood, Maci Cole, and Annika Dill all picked up a home run in the contest.

Maura Moore (13-13) got the start and recorded the win for the Hurricane on Friday. She pitched a complete game and limited Wichita State to only four hits, with only one hit coming after the first inning. She also tallied three strikeouts in the game.

ON DECK
Next week, the Golden Hurricane play a midweek matchup at Kansas City before hosting Florida Atlantic for a weekend The American series at Collins Family Softball Complex. The three-game series will start on Friday and run through Sunday.
