TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa women's soccer team returned to the field Tuesday to officially begin preseason workouts for the 2025 season, which starts next week Friday, August 8, in a home exhibition against Oklahoma State (7 p.m.).

Head ball coach Jim Rhein is set for his fifth year leading the Golden Hurricane and 18th overall season at TU following back-to-back trips to the American Conference Championship for the first time since 2014-15. Joining him in his coaching circle are Associate Head Coach Jo Johnson, assistant coaches Dan Williams and Kaylee Rodriguez and goalkeeper coach Bryan Weygand.

Tulsa returns seven championship-hungry starters from the season finale last year, including a 2024 American Offensive Player of the Week and midfielder Ady Bechtel, veteran forward Hannah Chance, 2024 All-Freshman forward Aniya Facen, 2024 American assist leader and forward Jordan Frederick, defender Brenna Rowlett, three-year starting goalkeeper Tatum Sanders and experienced midfielder Maggie SymSmith.

Also returning for the Golden Hurricane is sophomore forward Blaine Schutte, who led the American with nine goals last season, earning Second Team All-Conference honors and All-Freshman Team status.

Other returning key letterwinners include 2023 All-Conference and All-Freshman forward Kaylyn Simmons, 2023 All-Freshman midfielder Piper Szafranski, sophomore defender Lauren McIntyre, senior midfielder Gracen Ruggles, sophomore midfielder Kaleigh "KK" Hart, redshirt senior midfielder Avery Hudkins and redshirt junior defender Calista Siegmeier.

The Golden Hurricane welcomes three transfer players to the roster in 2025. The TU coaching staff hit the transfer portal this offseason and signed SMU defender and Iowa Western All-American and two-time JUCO national champion Nanami Hata (Numazu, Japan), Northern Illinois goalkeeper Abi Dolding (Hastings, England) and Jacksonville forward Makala Woodford.

The six true freshmen ready to don the Blue and Gold for the first time this year are defenders Natalie Hernandez (The Colony, Texas), Makayla Muhammad (Lansing, Mich.) and Parker McGraw (Norman, Okla.), forwards Presley Boyd (Norman, Okla.) and Addison Castleberry (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and lastly midfielder Katie Nguyen (Haslet, Texas).

McGraw and Boyd played four years together at Norman North High School, helping their squad win the 2025 Oklahoma 6A State Championship, preceded by three state runner-up finishes.

TU will kick off its 20-match season on Friday, August 8, in a 7:00 p.m. exhibition against Oklahoma State at home in the Hurricane Soccer Stadium. The regular season begins for Tulsa on August 14, on the road against Central Arkansas.
