
Tulsa Downs Central Arkansas 2-1 in Regular-Season Opener

CONWAY, Ark. — Tulsa (1-0-0) secured a 2-1 road victory over Central Arkansas (0-1-0) Thursday night, with both Golden Hurricane goals coming in the first half. This victory marks Tulsa's eighth consecutive win over Central Arkansas, moving their all-time record to 8-1 against the Bears.
Tulsa took control early in the first half with consistent offensive pressure. Forward Blaine Schutte netted her first goal of the season and the 10th of her career in the 9th minute, assisted by Jordan Frederick, giving the team a 1-0 lead. This goal also garnered Frederick her 19th career assist, tying her with three other Golden Hurricane players for the second-most assists in program history.
Frederick then extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 14th minute, assisted by Schutte. Central Arkansas's goalkeeper, Anna Kathryn Harrell, made several key saves, including stops on shots from Kaylyn Simmons, Aniya Facen, Schutte, and Makayla Muhammad, but Tulsa maintained their 2-0 lead through the end of the half. TU had a total of 13 shots in the first half.
The second half began with the Bears closing the gap when Caroline Billings scored just after halftime, assisted by Nina Mazzola and Trace Pavatt, bringing the score to 2-1. Both teams remained aggressive throughout the half, with yellow cards coming from both sides. The Golden Hurricane applied pressure with a series of corner kicks and shots, including attempts by Muhammad and Hannah Chance, but all were saved by Harrell. Abi Dolding of Tulsa also made several key saves in the final seconds, maintaining the lead as the game ended 2-1.
