TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa (2-0-0) secured an exciting 3-2 victory over Stephen F. Austin (0-1-1) at Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium Sunday afternoon, with goals by forwards Jordan Frederick and Kaylyn Simmons in the second half powering TU to the win. The Golden Hurricane moves to 4-2-1 all-time against Stephen F. Austin.

Tulsa erased a 2-0 deficit with three goals in six minutes to come back and win the contest. The last time TU came back from down 2-0 was on Oct. 22, 2023, at home against UAB, where the Blazers held a 2-0 halftime lead before the Golden Hurricane rattled off four goals in the second half to win.

The first half opened with Abi Dolding setting the tone for Tulsa in goal, making crucial saves to keep the game scoreless in the early stages. Despite efforts from the offensive players, including shots on target by Piper Szafranski and Avery Hudkins, the Ladyjacks' defense, anchored by goalkeeper Makenna Garcia, proved difficult to breach. A goal by Allison Weir put Stephen F. Austin ahead, and despite multiple shot attempts from Presley Boyd, Tulsa was unable to convert, ending the half trailing 1-0.

The second half began with Tulsa trailing by two after an early second half goal by the 'Jacks, but momentum shifted dramatically when Jordan Frederick scored in the 63rd minute, assisted by Hannah Chance and Szafranski, cutting the deficit to one. This marked Frederick's second and third goals of the year, bringing her career total to 13.

Just two minutes later, Kaylyn Simmons equalized the score with a goal, assisted by Addison Castleberry. This was Simmons' first goal of the young season, her fifth career goal, and notably, her first since returning from injury last season. Tulsa completed their comeback when Frederick found the back of the net again at 68', with assists from Boyd and Ady Bechtel, securing a 3-2 lead and ultimately a victory over Stephen F. Austin. Impressively, five different Golden Hurricane players recorded assists in this match.

"It was a dogfight in the first half, and we didn't come out as strong as we would like," said Frederick following the victory. "Starting the second half, I think we showed resilience and really wanted to win today, and I think we showed that when we came back 3-2."

Frederick, who scored twice in the match, emphasized the importance of the win for the team's confidence moving forward. "We want to win championships. We want to make a run at our conference tournament this year and win the conference, and this really sets us up that way, going 2-0 into our next game really gives us so much confidence."

The next challenge for the Tulsa squad is a trip to Abilene, Texas, where they will face Abilene Christian. The match is set for Thursday, August 21, at 7 p.m.

The Tulsa soccer teams are looking for more ball kids for the 2025 season. Ball kids and one accompanying parent or guardian will receive free admission for games they sign up for. Ball kids will retrieve balls that go out of bounds on the sidelines for the entire game. The minimum age to be a Ball Kid is 8 years old. Kids ages 13 or older are not eligible to participate.
