TU Drops Road Match 2-1 to #17 Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The University of Tulsa fell to the No 17 ranked Kansas Jayhawks in a narrow 2–1 defeat on Sunday at Rock Chalk Park. Despite Tulsa's early lead with a first-half goal, Kansas secured the win with two goals in the second half.
Tulsa began play against KU with Maddy Nigey in goal, facing an aggressive Kansas offense. The Jayhawks had several early opportunities but were thwarted by Nigey, who made key saves, including a notable stop in the 6th minute against Emily Tobin. Nigey's performance was a standout, as she achieved a career high in both saves and shots faced. Tulsa's Aniya Facen broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, finding the net with an assist from Addison Castleberry, marking Castleberry's fifth career assist. This goal was Facen's fifth career goal and second of the season, contributing to her seven points on the year. Facen has secured at least one point in every game so far this season. Despite Kansas's continued pressure, Nigey maintained a clean sheet, saving multiple attempts, including two crucial saves from Faith Johnston in the final minutes of the period. The first half concluded with Tulsa leading 1–0.
Marit McLaughlin equalized for the Jayhawks in the 66th minute with a goal assisted by Jocelyn Herrema and Lydia Viets.
