Frederick and Tulsa Rally to Beat Kansas City 3-2

8/31/2025 3:46:00 PM | Women's Soccer

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa (4-2-0, 0-0-0) secured a 3-2 victory over Kansas City (3-3-0, 0-0-0) on Sunday at Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium, with two goals scored late in the second half.

Kansas City took an early lead on a goal by Ashley Koch, assisted by Delfina Zolesio and Kaitlyn Edwards, in the second minute. Tulsa responded with a goal from Maggie SymSmith, assisted by Blaine Schutte and Natalie Hernandez, in the 14th minute to level the score. This marked Hernandez's first career assist. The visitors regained the lead late in the half with a goal by Zolesio, assisted by Riley Porter, in the 45th minute. The half ended with Kansas City leading 2-1 despite Tulsa taking four corner kicks and multiple shot attempts.

The second half began with Tulsa showing offensive aggression, recording multiple shots and corner kicks within the first 15 minutes. Jordan Frederick was pivotal for Tulsa, scoring two goals late in the half, at 88' and 89', turning a one-goal lead by the Roos into a 3-2 lead for the Golden Hurricane. This included Frederick's third game-winning goal of the season, which leads the American conference, and her 15th and 16th career goals.  The half also saw a series of fouls and yellow cards, including a caution for Kaitlyn Edwards and team infractions for the Golden Hurricane.

"It was pretty emotional to tie it and then Aniya played a great ball and I was calm and composed and was able to put it back in the back of the net," said Frederick. "It wasn't fun going into halftime, but the way we came back out, we knew we were going to win. That's what we had in our mentality and we showed it."

This match marked Tulsa's second win of the season from behind at the half. The win improved Tulsa's record to 4-2-0. Kansas City fell to 3-3-0 after the loss.

Looking ahead, the Tulsa women will travel to East Texas A&M on Thursday, Sept. 4. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Commerce, Texas.
