TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa women's golf head coach Mike Roters has announced the hiring of Klara Karteus as assistant coach for the Golden Hurricane women's golf program.

"Klara brings an incredible energy and passion for coaching that is impossible to miss," remarked Head Coach Mike Roters. "Her wealth of golf knowledge, teaching experience, and commitment to developing student-athletes make her a perfect fit for our program. I'm thrilled to welcome her to Tulsa and can't wait to get to work alongside her. The future is bright, and I'm excited to see what we can accomplish together as we continue building Tulsa Women's Golf."

"Coming to Tulsa somehow feels like coming home," Karteus said. "Six years ago, I left Switzerland to chase a dream of playing college golf. At Iowa, Mike became one of the biggest influences on my journey, not just as a golfer, but as a person. He helped shape my game, but more importantly, he gave me stability, belief, and confidence during one of the biggest transitions of my life.

"College golf isn't easy. It's demanding. It tests you in ways most people never see," remarked Karteus. "I've always believed that what separates great programs isn't just talent; it's the people. Mike is a person who believes in you long before you're able to believe in yourself. He shows up on the days you can't, and he never gives less than 120% of his energy, his passion, and his heart. Anyone who has spent even a little time around him knows exactly what I'm talking about. That's why I'm incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside him, as well as to be part of a program he believes in so deeply."

Karteus joins the Golden Hurricane after serving as a PGA Associate Golf Professional at the Athens Country Club in Athens, Georgia, where she worked with golfers of all ages and skill levels while continuing her development as one of the game's rising coaches. Prior to joining the Athens County Club, she served as a PGA Associate Golf Professional at Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Karteus has built a strong foundation in player development through her work as a PGA Associate Professional. She has specialized in instruction, course management, short game development, and competitive preparation while working with junior, amateur, and adult golfers.

"I'm passionate about golf. I'm passionate about winning. But even more than that, I believe in making great better every day," she added. "When individuals grow, teams grow. When people believe in one another, extraordinary things happen. Mike is that kind of leader. The University of Tulsa is that kind of program. I have the incredible opportunity to give back by investing in the next generation the same way others invested in me. Golf has given me so much, but the greatest gift it's given me has always been the people. I'll bring energy every single day. I'll bring a relentless love for the game. But most importantly, I'll bring an unwavering belief in the people who play it, because belief changes people, passion is contagious, and when those two come together, incredible things happen."

A former collegiate golfer, Karteus enjoyed an accomplished collegiate career before transitioning into coaching. She spent her first two seasons at the University of Iowa before transferring to Old Dominion to finish out her collegiate career.

As a student-athlete at Old Dominion, Karteus competed in 20 tournaments over two seasons, posting a 76.1 career scoring average in 59 rounds. She recorded a career-low 68 at the Evie Odom Invitational and earned multiple top-30 finishes during her collegiate career.

During her time at Iowa, she played named team MVP and received the Leadership Impact Award as a freshman. She appeared in 11 tournaments over her two years and during her freshman season she claimed five top-25, including four top-10s.

Karteus was ranked top-400 in the world when she signed with Iowa. She won the Championnat de Romande and competed in the 2019 Ladies European Team Championship, the 2018 Girls European Team Championship and the 2018 Girls World Championship. She shot 1-over at the world championship and placed 19th. Her amateur resume also includes top-four results at the Ladies European Tour Access Series and the Belgium International, a third-place finish at the Swiss National Championship and a runner-up placing at the Ticino Championship.

Karteus joins a Tulsa program that is coming off back-to-back American Conference Championships and advanced to its 22nd NCAA Regional appearance. Tulsa recorded seven top-five finishes during the season and had four golfers earn All-American conference honors.
