Last Time Out: Golden Hurricane Come Up Short at Denver

In the first road match of the season, Tulsa fell to Denver 3-0 Friday evening. The Golden Hurricane finished with eight shots, including two on goal, while the Pioneers totaled 18 shots and eight on frame.
Denver put Tulsa behind in the third minute when Hudson Tate scored at 2:39 off assists from Kieran Hanna and Bryce Willoughby for a 1-0 lead. Tulsa created its first sustained look midway through the half, with Luc Achermann-Stanfield taking a shot at 20:16 and sending another attempt out top right at 20:45.
Tulsa fired off the first two shots of the second half, with Arnau Pedrola Fortuny trying at 45:46 and Jared Aguilar forcing Alex Hohl to save a bottom-right effort at 49:09.
Denver added to the margin at 60:04 when Erik Collins scored off Anthony Masino's assist to make it 2-0, and Bryce Willoughby scored from Ethan Orchard at 61:19 for a 3-0 lead.

McIntosh Joins 300-Win Club

Head Coach Tom McIntosh earned his 300th career victory with Tulsa's 2-1 win over Incarnate Word on Aug. 28.
McIntosh became the 15th active NCAA Division I men's soccer head coach to reach the 300-win milestone.
Of those 15 active coaches, only three others have earned all 300-plus victories at a single program.
Only four other active head coaches with 300-plus wins have coached fewer seasons than McIntosh.

Saylon Named American Goalkeeper of the Week

Junior Carlito Saylon earned the first American Goalkeeper of the Week honor of the 2026 season, the league announced Monday.
Saylon allowed just one goal on 18 shots faced during the week, recording a shutout to bring his career total to eight.
Against UIC, the Brighton, Mich., native faced 14 shots and kept the Flames off the scoreboard. He made eight saves, finishing one shy of his career high. In Tulsa's Sunday afternoon match against UC Riverside, Saylon added one save in the Golden Hurricane's 1-1 draw.
The honor marks Saylon's second career American Goalkeeper of the Week selection.
Luc Achermann Stanfield also earned a conference honorable mention this week.

Aguilar Named to American Preseason All-Conference Team

Redshirt junior Jared Aguilar earned American Conference Preseason All-Conference honors.
The midfielder is coming off a standout 2025 campaign in which he recorded two goals and five assists in 18 matches.
Aguilar led Tulsa with 29 shots last season, including 13 shots on goal.
Following the season, he earned United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-East Region and American Conference Second Team All-Conference honors.
Aguilar also collected two American Honorable Mention Player of the Week selections in 2025.

Aguilar Tabbed as Midfielder to Watch for Hermann Trophy Selection

Redshirt junior Jared Aguilar was one of only three players from the American Conference selected to the 2026 Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Approximately 40 men's soccer players nationwide are selected to the watch list each season.
Named after Robert R. Hermann, former chairman of the National Professional Soccer League's Executive Committee, the Hermann Trophy honors the top player in collegiate soccer each year.

Young Tulsa Team Ranked Sixth in Preseason

The American Conference coaches selected Tulsa to finish sixth in the 2026 preseason poll, 10 points behind fifth-place FIU.
The Golden Hurricane enters the season following a 5-9-4 campaign in 2025 that included a 3-3-2 conference record and a trip to the American Championship semifinals.
Tulsa returns four starters from last year's squad: Danny Stevens, Carlito Saylon, Jared Aguilar and Will Applegate.
The Golden Hurricane added 15 newcomers, including six transfers.
Tulsa's 11 freshman are tied with South Florida for the most first-year college players in the American, with the program being one of the youngest squads in the league.
Key additions include Daytona State transfer and First Team All-American Cale Saunders, Cleveland State transfer and First Team All-Conference selection Peleg Armendariz, and St. Edward's transfer Christian Mezas, a Division II All-Region selection.

Coach Mac: A Tulsa Fixture

Tom McIntosh enters his 32nd season as Tulsa's head coach in 2026.
He is one of 13 active Division I head coaches with at least 30 seasons of experience and is also one of only four active Division I coaches to spend all 30-plus seasons at a single program.
He owns the longest active coaching tenure in the American Conference and is tied for the 10th-longest active tenure among Division I men's soccer head coaches.
McIntosh ranks as the 14th-winningest active head coach in Division I men's soccer.
McIntosh has guided Tulsa through four conferences: the Missouri Valley Conference (1995, 2000-04), the Western Athletic Conference (1996-99), Conference USA (2005-13) and the American Conference (2014-present).

Ball Kid Sign-ups
The Tulsa soccer teams are looking for more ball kids for the 2025 season. Ball kids and one accompanying parent or guardian will receive free admission for games they sign up for. Ball kids will retrieve balls that go out of bounds on the sidelines for the entire game. The minimum age to be a Ball Kid is 8 years old. Kids ages 13 or older are not eligible to participate.
