LAWRENCE, Kan. — Tulsa (8-1) fell to No. 22 Kansas 3-0 (16-25, 22-25, 18-25) Sunday afternoon on the Jawhawks' home court. Although the Golden Hurricane's eight-match season-opening win streak comes to an end, their 8-1 record is still the program's best start since 2000.

Kansas broke open an early back-and-forth first set with five straight points on Reese Ptacek's serve, using kills by Taylor Stanley and Grace Nelson to move ahead 10-4. Tulsa cut into the gap with a three-point stretch that included kills by Isabella Ocampo and Emma Blaine, but KU answered and later pushed the margin to 17-10. The Golden Hurricane made another brief push to 17-13 on a KU error and Ava Steffe's kill from Lauren Patterson, before the Jayhawks scored the next five points, including a Logan Bell ace and a Nelson kill, to reach 22-13. Tulsa got late kills from Ocampo and Jill Hanson, but Kansas closed the set 25-16 on a Tulsa service error.

Tulsa traded points with Kansas through the opening stretch of the second set, tying it at 4-4 on Hanson's service ace and again at 8-8 on Maegan Mills' kill from Brittany Bacorn. The Jayhawks moved ahead 16-12 behind kills by Taylor Stanley and Logan Bell, but Tulsa cut the margin to 16-15 with kills from Olivia Vance and Ocampo and an Ocampo block. The set was tied at 18-18 on an Ocampo kill before a block by Blaine and Hanson put Tulsa up 20-19; KU later led 22-21, and after a KU service error tied it at 22-22, the Jayhawks closed with a Reese Ptacek kill, a Stanley ace and a Stanley kill for a 25-22 set.

KU scored the first four points of the third set, starting with a Logan Bell kill and adding two Tulsa attack errors on blocks by Reese Ptacek and Taylor Stanley, before Hanson and Blaine kills brought Tulsa within 4-2. The Jayhawks kept the separation through the middle of the set, including Stanley's service ace for a 14-8 lead, but Tulsa reached 15-11 on Blaine's kill and a Stanley attack error. Vance, Ocampo and Hanson added kills as Tulsa stayed within 20-15, before KU moved to 22-15 on kills by Ptacek and Grace Nelson. The Jayhawks reached set point at 24-16 on kills by Stanley and Ptacek, and after Blaine's kill and Kat Cooper's block cut it to 24-18, a Tulsa attack error ended the set 25-18.

Up next, Tulsa volleyball travels to Coral Gables, Fla., to face LSU and Miami on Sept. 18-19 at the Canes Classic.

BALL KID SIGNUP
The Tulsa volleyball team is looking for ball kids for the 2026 season. Ball kids and one accompanying parent or guardian will receive free admission for games they sign up for. Ball kids will retrieve balls that go out of bounds on the sidelines for the entire game and provide a fresh ball for servers. Only ages 10-12 are allowed to participate.
