Shepherd Earns American Defensive Player of the Week Honors

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa women's soccer defender Molly Shepherd was named the American Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following a strong defensive performance across the Golden Hurricane's two matches last week.
Shepherd played all 90 minutes and helped lead Tulsa's backline to a 2-0 shutout victory over Abilene Christian. The Golden Hurricane defense limited the Wildcats throughout the match as Tulsa secured its second shutout of the season.
The sophomore defender followed that performance by playing 88 minutes in Tulsa's 1-1 draw against East Texas A&M on Sunday. Her time spent on the field was the most of any Tulsa player in the match.
Shepherd's recognition marks her first American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor and highlights her contributions to a Tulsa defense that allowed just one goal across two matches last week.
Tulsa goalkeeper Maddy Nigey also earned American Conference honorable mention honors Monday after recording shutouts in 135 minutes of action across the Golden Hurricane's two matches last week.
Tulsa returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 10 when the Golden Hurricane head across town to Oral Roberts for the Mayor's Cup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
