Mike Bloesch is in his fifth season on The University of Tulsa coaching staff, and his fourth as offensive line coach.
Bloesch came to Tulsa in January 2015 as the offensive quality control coach and was promoted to offensive line coach on December 11, 2015 prior to Tulsa’s appearance in the Camping World Independence Bowl.
His first full season as Tulsa’s offensive line coach was 2016. Bloesch’s front line paved the way for a Hurricane offense that set a school record with eight 300+ rushing games, which was also the second-most 300+ rushing games in the NCAA in 2016. It was an offense that also set an NCAA record by becoming the first FBS/DI school to have a 3,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard rushers and two 1,000-yard receivers in the same season.
Bloesch has coached four offensive linemen to seven American Athletic Conference honors during his tenure. In 2016, Tulsa’s Blake Belcher and Chandler Miller earned first-team all-league honors, while Tyler Bowling and Evan Plagg were second-team honorees. Miller and Bowling repeated as all-conference selections in 2017, while Bowling, despite missing six games with an injury, earned his third all-conference recognition in 2018.
Before coming to Tulsa, Bloesch spent the 2014 season as a football analyst at his alma mater, the University of Houston. In his role, Bloesch was responsible for providing analytical support for the offensive coaching staff including video breakdown, self and opponent scouting, game day support and analysis of the football program.
Previously, Bloesch spent three seasons (2011-13) as the offensive coordinator at Temple (Texas) High School. In his three seasons with the Wildcats, Bloesch helped lead the program to a 19-13 record, capturing the District 8-5A championship in 2013, while averaging 44 points and 512 offensive yards per game. He also served as the school's Powerlifting head coach, Middle School Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator.
Bloesch began his coaching career as the offensive line coach at Abilene (Texas) Cooper High School in 2009. In two years, Cooper captured the District 4-4A championship in 2009 and District 3-5A championship in 2010. Cooper had a combined record of 20-6 in Bloesch's two seasons, while setting school records for most points (528) and most offensive yards in a season (6,040) in 2010.
At Houston, Bloesch started 37 consecutive games at offensive guard from 2006-08, while helping lead the Cougars to their first bowl victory in 28 years. He earned Conference USA honorable mention all-conference honors in 2007 and 2008.
Bloesch received his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology-Sports Administration from Houston and a master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University in 2013.
He and his wife, Lexi, have two sons: Beau and Drew.
