Lucas Rothenberger joined the Golden Hurricane track & field and cross country coaching staff prior to the 2019-20 season.
Â
Before coming to Tulsa, Rothenberger spent one season at Iowa State (2018-19) of the Big 12, where he served as an associate coach for cross country and track & field operations. During his tenure, the Cyclone men’s and women’s cross country teams won the Big 12 Championships, while multiple student-athletes garnered All-America accolades.
Before that, Rothenberger spent one year with the Pac 12’s Oregon State Beavers (2017-18) as a volunteer assistant coach. The OSU distance runners achieved multiple top-10 marks in both indoor and outdoor track, including a school record for the indoor 800-meters and indoor 5,000m events.
Â
Previously, Rothenberger coached for five years on the prep level at his alma mater, Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon. Overall, he coached over 70 all-league performers, had 40 all-state finishers and three individual state champions.
Â
At Jesuit, Rothenberger coached eight podium finishing teams and three state champions in cross country and had one school record-holder for the 5,000m distance. In track & field, he coached the middle distance and distance runners, ranging from 400m to 3,000m, thus helping Jesuit High School to five state track & field team titles.
Â
During his tenure, Rothenberger coached his athletes to school records in the Girls 800m (2:10.64), Girls 1,500m (4:32.38), Girls 3,000m (9:42.56), Boys 1,500m (3:50.21), Boys 3,000m (8:14.47), Boys 2-Mile (8:53.62) and the Boys 5,000m (14.29.42).
