Doug Brotherton enters the 2025-26 season as Associate Head Coach and is currently in his fifth overall year on the Tulsa coaching staff. He spent the 2021-22 season as the coordinator of player development and the previous three seasons as an assistant coach.
During his tenure, Tulsa has tallied 76 wins and advanced to the 2022 WNIT, 2024 WBIT and 2025 WNIT.
Tulsa reached the 17-win mark for a fourth consecutive season in 2024-25, finishing with a 17-15 overall mark. Brotherton helped the Hurricane earn a bid to the 2025 WNIT and saw Delanie Crawford bring home unanimous first team all-conference honors and the prestigious Ambassador Award, while Kennedi Alexander was distinguished as an all-freshman player.
Brotherton was a key part of the staff that led Tulsa to a historic season in 2023-24 as the Golden Hurrricane posted the school’s best record in 19 years at 25-10 with a share of the American Athletic Conference regular season championship with 13 wins to only five losses in league play. He helped coach AAC Player of the Year Temira Poindexter and AAC Most Improved Player of the Year Delanie Crawford to all-conference honors and WBCA All-American Honorable Mention status. During the season, the team earned victories over teams from the ACC, SEC, Big 12 and Big East and ended the year with a quarterfinal run in the inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT).
In 2022-23, Brotherton helped the Hurricane post 17 wins for the second-straight season, tying the mark from the previous year for the most wins since the 2014-15 season. Tulsa also posted a 5-0 record to start league play, the best in Tulsa’s nine-year history in The American, and put together a program-best nine-game home win streak (Feb. 27, 2022-Jan. 4, 2023).
In 2021-22, the Hurricane recorded a 17-11 overall record, the most wins in eight years, started the year with a 10-0 mark for the best start in school history, and advanced to the WNIT Second Round, marking the first postseason appearance for TU since 2015.
Brotherton came to Tulsa from The Village School [Houston, Texas], where he served as the varsity girls basketball coach for nine years (2012-21). In his final three years (2018-21), Brotherton led his teams to a 98-10 record, claimed three-straight district and regional championships, and advanced to the state championship game in each of those seasons. In 2020, The Village School won the TAPPS 6A Girls Basketball Championship, the first in school history and the first for a Houston area school in over 30 years. For his efforts, Brotherton was named the 2020 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Coach of the Year and the 2020 VYPE Houston Coach of the Year.
Brotherton took a program with just 17 players in his first year (2012) to as many as 70 players to form five teams for grades 6-12 at The Village School by 2020. Brotherton led The Village School to their first playoff appearance for a girls’ sports team in school history in 2015, qualifying for the TAPPS 4A state tournament, and had six-straight 20+ win seasons.
During his time at The Village School, Brotherton also served as an assistant athletic director, physical education department chair and sports information director. In those roles, he oversaw the entire physical education program, managed and evaluated staff, was in charge of the event and facilities schedule, oversaw the digital boards on campus and managed all social media accounts for the athletics department, while also coaching volleyball, football, golf, baseball and basketball throughout his time at The Village School.
Brotherton also served as the Chicago Bulls regional scout for two years (2016-18), was the head men’s basketball coach at Mid-Michigan Community College (2010-12) and the varsity girls basketball coach at Shepherd High School (2005-11).
Brotherton and his wife, Megan, have three daughters: Madison, Peyton and Taylor.
