Jo Johnson returned to the Golden Hurricane women's soccer program as associate head coach in June of 2025. It'll be her first year in her new role and her fourth overall season with Tulsa.
Johnson spent three seasons (2021-23) as an assistant coach for TU before departing for a one-year head coaching stint for Spokane Zephyr FC, an American professional women's soccer club based in Spokane, Washington, that competes in the USL Super League (USLS).
Johnson played a pivotal role in launching Zephyr FC, leading the club through its debut season with unmatched dedication, professionalism and vision. Under her leadership, the team established a competitive foundation, and a strong cultural identity built on unity and excellence.
During her tenure at Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane has earned 18 wins, while two players have achieved American All-Conference honors and five players were tabbed to the All-Rookie team. Johnson originally came to TU after serving seven years (2014-20) as the Jenks High School head girls coach. She compiled an 81-22 overall record, coached 15 all-state players and 25 players who went on to play at the collegiate level. She was named the 2020 United Soccer Coaches Oklahoma Coach of the Year for Girls High School Soccer. At JHS, Johnson led all training sessions, game day coaching and team operations, including staff development, community service activities, fundraising and social media.
Johnson has also worked with The Side FC, a pro-amateur UWS League, and Tulsa soccer club teams West Side Alliance and Tulsa Soccer Club.
Prior to moving to Tulsa, Johnson was an assistant coach at her alma mater, UTEP, for two seasons (2010-11).
Johnson was a three-year letterwinner and starter at UTEP, earning Conference USA all-conference honors in 2009. She also earned NJCAA All-American honors and was a first-team ACCAC all-conference honoree in 2006 while playing for Paradise Valley Community College.
Johnson holds a USSF B Coaching License.
Johnson and her husband, Jordan, have one daughter, Emma Jo, and one son, Jack.
