Ben Farmer is in his fifth season at The University of Tulsa after joining the Golden Hurricane volleyball coaching staff in January 2018.

Last season, Farmer helped Tulsa reach the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) for the third straight year, excluding the Covid-19 shortened 2020 season. Tulsa posted 14 wins and had a 9-11 American Athletic Conference record in 2021.

In year two, Farmer helped Tulsa advance to the NIVC semifinal match with wins over UC Davis, Santa Clara and Weber State. The Hurricane finished the season with an 18-16 overall record and 8-8 conference mark in 2019.
 
In his first season at Tulsa, Farmer helped the Hurricane finish two spots higher than picked to finish in the American Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll. Tulsa went 19-12 overall with an 11-7 mark in conference action during the 2018 campaign.

Farmer came to Tulsa with numerous years of collegiate volleyball coaching experience. He had a three-year stint (2012-14) at Houston Baptist followed by another three seasons as an assistant coach at Angelo State (2015-17).

At Angelo State, Farmer helped coach the AVCA Division II Freshman of the Year for the South Central Region. He also was instrumental in the development of seven AVCA All-Americans, highlighted by one first-team selection, one Academic All-American and numerous all-conference performers.

In his first season at Houston Baptist, the Huskies went 20-10 en route to a Great West Conference Championship in 2012. Farmer helped mold nine all-conference selections, a Conference Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Setter of the Year.

Farmer has also coached at the club and junior levels. He was the head club coach for the Brazos Valley Juniors, Houston Skyline and Absolute Volleyball Academy of Texas. Farmer led the Absolutely Volleyball Academy to a national championship in the 2015 Girls Junior National Tournament.

A club volleyball player during his final two years at Barbers Hill (Texas) High School, Farmer turned down opportunities to play NCAA volleyball to attend Texas A&M. Farmer continued to play competitive volleyball throughout Texas and participated in the USAV Adult Open National Championship.

A native of Cove, Texas, Farmer graduated from Texas A&M in December 2012 with a degree in kinesiology and applied exercise physiology. In 2014, Farmer earned a master’s degree in business administration from Houston Baptist.
