TU scored early and often against its cross-town rival. Junior midfielder Chris Spears stunned the home crowd when he blasted a shot from 18 yards out past ORU goalkeeper Tim Brooks just 20 seconds into the contest. A little over six minutes later, sophomore midfielder Mario Gonzalez gave the Hurricane a 2-0 lead when beat his defender and nailed a shot from 10 yards out.
Down 2-1, the Golden Eagles got on the board at the 24:25 minute mark when Reran Mendoza scored off a deflection of TU sophomore goalkeeper Brent Salter. Four minutes later, Dominguez notched his first goal of the night at 28:49 when he took Spear's deflected shot and snuck a shot past Books.
Less than a minute later, senior midfielder Robbie Aristodemo charged toward the net on a breakaway from the right side and sustained a hard foul inside the goalkeeper's box before he could get off a shot. The foul resulted in a penalty kick, which Aristodemo converted into TU's fourth goal of the first half. But the Golden Eagles earned their second goal of the night when Ramiro Perez was successful on a penalty kick at the 43:56 mark. Tulsa led at halftime, 4-2.
Dominguez came out firing in the second half with back-to-back goals at the 47:21 and 61:38, respectively, to secure his first career hat trick. Freshman forward Stephen Warwick earned the assist on Dominguez's second goal, while senior midfielder Shawn McCullough picked up the assist on the third Dominguez goal.
Warwick concluded the TU scoring barrage at the 69:38 mark when he outmaneuvered Brooks for his first collegiate goal. The Golden Eagles added their third goal less than a minute later when Mendoza found the back of the net at 70:08 for his second goal of the game.
Tulsa seven-goal performance was the most goals scored in a single game since a 7-0 victory over Southwest Missouri State during the 1993 season, and it tied the most goals scored against Oral Roberts since the Hurricane posted a 7-1 triumph during the 1988 campaign.
