Fayetteville, Ark. - Arkansas guard Wendi Willits scored a game-high 25 points as four Lady Razorbacks scored in double figures to down Tulsa, 101-60, in front of 2,464 fans at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.
Tulsa junior Leela Farr scored 20 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Golden Hurricane. Farr missed her career-high by just a single point. TU dropped its third straight game and falls to 3-8 on the season. TU freshman Candice Brewer, a native of Fayetteville, matched her career high with 13 points and established a new single-game best for rebounds with six.
Arkansas (9-4) finished the game 36-of-61 from the field for 59 percent and nailed 10-of-16 three-point baskets for a sizzling 62.5 percent. Willits connected on 8-of-13 attempts from the field, including 7-of-10 baskets from behind the arc. Sophomore Dana Cherry added 20 points, while senior Lonniya Bragg and sophomore Lakishia Harper chipped in 14 and 10 points apiece.
The Lady Razorbacks set the tone early in the first half. After TU tied the game, 4-4, Arkansas ran off a 12-3 run to increase its lead to an 11-point advantage. The Golden Hurricane cut the double-digit lead to nine points on two free throws by Farr, but a Harper lay-up pushed the lead back into double figures and TU never threatened again. The Lady Razorbacks led at halftime, 44-27.
In the second half, Arkansas caught fire from behind the three-point line. Willits torched the nets by connecting on 4-of-5 attempts and freshman Shanna Harmon nailed 2-of-3 three-point shots. The Lady Razorbacks finished the second half 7-of-11 for 63.6 percent from beyond the arc. Tulsa avoided tying the school mark for the largest margin of defeat with freshman Kim Chiconas' lay-up with under :20 left in the game and junior Mia Williams' three-point bucket at the buzzer. Despite the lopsided score, Tulsa didn't allow the Lady Razorbacks to control the boards as both teams finished with 32 rebounds each.
The 106 points by Arkansas is the most points TU has allowed since basketball was reinstated prior to the 1996-97 campaign, and the most points surrendered since Oklahoma recorded 106 points during the 1980-81 season. TU falls to 2-3 on the road this season and suffered just its second loss of the season to a 2000 postseason team.
