Kansas City - The University of Tulsa rowing team placed three boats in the top-10 at the American Royal Fall Classic, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Tulsa's first regatta of the fall season resulted in two top-10 finishes by the open-4 boats. Second-place Tulsa, coxswained by Chrissie Williams, finished just one second behind the first place boat from the University of Colorado with a time of 16:50.0. The second Hurricane boat, coxswained by Adriana Aldaco, came in ninth place with a time of 17:46.0.
"You always hate to be on the losing end of a one-second race. Certainly we can look back at our performance and find many places where we could have made up a difference that slim. We will take this into our future races and not leave any margin for doubt in our performance in the coming weeks," said Head Coach Jason Coffman. "We had good races in both boats, they were strong and moving well together. We will be working over the next couple of regattas to be more consistent."
The only entry in the open-8 race, for Tulsa, placed fourth. Coxwsain Chrissie Williams and her open-8 teammates finished 30-seconds behind race winner Kansas State, with a time of 15:03.0.
This regatta used a head race format, in which boats are sent one at a time and race against the clock. Teams making up the field in the regatta were the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, University of Nebraska, University of Colorado and local club teams.
Next up for Tulsa is the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, October 21st in Boston, Mass.
