TU's Barzotti, Salter Receive MVC Academic Honors

Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa men's soccer student-athletes Giancarlo Barzotti and Brent Salter have been named to the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team as announced today by the league office.
Barzotti, a senior defender from Yorba Linda, Calif., is one of four repeat selections to the Valley's Scholar-Athlete team. An international business major with a 3.53 grade point average, he started four of 10 games this past season and attempted two shots from his defender position. Barzotti concluded his career as a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter. He started 51 of 60 career games and tallied one assist and one goal for three career points. Last season, Barzotti was named to the 2000 MVC Scholar-Athlete team. He is also a three-year member of the TU Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
A native of Conway, Ark., Salter is a finance major with a 3.44 GAA. In 2001, the junior goalkeeper recorded 86 saves, posted a career-best four shutouts and completed the season with a 1.53 GAA. He started 18 games and collected a career-high nine saves against Brown and Vanderbilt. Salter, who is a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter, was named to the Microtel Inn & Suites/Golden Hurricane Kickoff Classic all-tournament team. His career numbers include 175 saves, five shutouts and 68 goals allowed in 3731 minutes for a 1.64 GAA. Salter was named to the 2000 Verizon Academic All-District VI First Team and was an honorable mention MVC Scholar Athlete selection a year ago. He is a three-year member of the TU Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
