TU Women's Basketball Runs Past Spartak Moscow, 79-56

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Senior Carla Morrow scored a team-high 19 points and four Golden Hurricane finished in double figures to lead Tulsa to a 79-56 exhibition win over Spartak Moscow at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
TU led, 41-38, at halftime, and used an 11-2 run midway through the second half to take a commanding 62-49 lead. Spartak pulled to within eight points, 62-54, but Tulsa again used its stingy defense and uptempo play to run off 15 unanswered points and finish the final 8:21 with a 17-2 run. The Golden Hurricane stifled the Russian team in the second half and surrendered just 18 points in the final period, while scoring 38.
For Tulsa, Morrow led the way with 19 points, hitting 4-of-5 three-point attempts in the first half en rout to 12 first period points. She also finished with four steals. Senior Leela Farr recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while adding a team-best five assists. Sophomore Becky Heidotten came off the bench to chip-in 16 points and connected on all eight free throw attempts. Junior Alyssa Shriver started slow, but finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Tulsa nailed 15 of 16 free throw attempts, outrebounded Spartak, 47-43, and forced the visitors into 30 turnovers.
Spartak was led by Marina Karpunia's game-high 20 points. Svetlana Maksimenko and Tatyana Sergeeva finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The first half featured seven ties and nine lead changes. Spartak jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and led 8-6 before Morrow reeled off back-to-back three-pointers to move the Golden Hurricane into a 12-10 lead. TU led by as many as nine points in the first half, but only managed a three-point advantage at intermission.
