Track Squads Fare Well on Day Three of Texas Relays

Austin, Texas - The University of Tulsa track teams are making waves at the 74th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. On the third day of competition, the Golden Hurricane qualified two events to finals and had three other events finish in the top five. The Hurricane also set two school records in the process.

Freshman sensation Shana Robinson finished second in her heat of the 100m with a school-record time of 11.40. Her time was the fourth best qualifing time, it also made Robinson the first TU runner of the season to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Junior Charlotte Sanderson finished fourth in the 5,000m with a time of 17:13.21, beating the closest WAC rival by four seconds.

Senior Kendra Lollis finished fourth in her heat of the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.59. She holds the school record for the event with a time of 14.57, which she set during the 1998 season.

The women's 4x400m relay team also quailfied for the event's final on Sunday with a second place finish in its heat. The team of Wendy McFarlane, Jamese James, Monica Joannes and Tiffany Williams clocked the fourth fastest time in school history with a 3:42.79, the seventh best qualifing time for the finals.

The women's sprint medley team finished sixth overall with the third fastest time in TU history with a time of 4:09.27. The team was made up of Robinson, McFarlane, James and April Johnson.

The women's distance medley relay team of Margaret Dangaher, Williams, Joannes and Fride Vullum set a school record with a time of 11:38.71. They finished second behind North Carolina's meet record, 1:22.97.

Sophomore sprinter Trey Runnels ran a time of 10.59 in the preliminaries of the 100m to finish fourth in his heat. Fellow sophomore Branon Vaughn ran a 15.90 in the preliminaries of the 110m hurdles to finish seventh in his heat.

The men's sprint medley team of Runnels, Derron Davis, Greg Johnson and Shawn McCullough finished fifth in the finals with a near school record time of 3:23.97. The TU record time of 3:23.09 was set in 1997.

The men's distance medley relay team finished ninth overall with a time of 10:13.71. The team was comprised of Derek Sparks, Derron Davis, Brian Erwin and Justin Rempel.
