Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - The University of Tulsa played their way into contention yesterday with a then tournament-best score of 291. On Thursday, the Golden Hurricane didn't play their way out of contention, but it was close.

The Hurricane started the day in seventh place of the 24-team field. With a team score of 301, TU slid into a tie with Arizona for eighth place with a score of 899. Duke shot a tournament-best round of 290 to retain the top spot. The Blue Devils own a three-day total of 882, four shots better than second place Georgia with a score of 886.

First round leader Oklahoma State fell to fifth place after a third-round total of 300. The Cowgirls now stand in with a three-day score of 892.

The Hurricane has two players in the top-25. The freshman duo of Suzie Fisher and Julie Tvede share identical scores of 223 at 25th. Junior Dani Mallon stands in 41st with a total of 226. Fellow junior Stacy Prammanasudh is 51st with a score of 228, while sophomore Maiko Senda has carded a score of 239 for 100th.

LSU's Katy Harris holds a one-stroke lead over Laura Moffat from UCLA with a three-day total of 212 for the individual lead. Candy Hanemann of Duke, Mikaela Parmlid of USC and Diana Ramage of Auburn all recorded the low round of the day with matching 69s.

"The front nine was really exciting to watch today," said TU head coach Melissa McNamara. "The rest of the round was not as exciting, however. Our freshmen are really playing well for us right now. Dani (Mallon) is playing solid golf and Maiko is getting better scores. We have nothing to lose now, so we want to leave on a good note tomorrow. We are confident that we can play much better than we played today and with a good day tomorrow, it puts the pressure on the other teams."
