Portland, Ore. - The University of Tulsa softball team earned a split in Western Athletic Conference action on Saturday against Portland State at Erv Lind Stadium in Portland, Ore.

The Vikings took advantage of an error by junior pitcher Jenny Magill to score an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning. PSU second baseman Megumi Hackett led the inning off with a walk, then advanced to second on a sacrifice. Monica Martell recorded an infield single before TU recorded the second out of the inning. With runners at first and third, Summer Conroy reached on Magill's error. Hackett scored on the play, while Martell was thrown out trying to advance to third.

The Hurricane could not get on track offensively as senior Kari Curtis and sophomore Kyla Malone were the only two Hurricane to record a hit. In fact, they were the only two TU players to reach first base in the game.

Morgan Seibert (15-19) picked up the win, while Magill (9-21) was tagged for the loss. Seibert struck out six TU batters, while allowing two hits and walking none. Magill pitched her 30th complete game of the season, striking out six, walking four and allowing four hits.

The second game went much better for Tulsa, as the Hurricane recorded its second best hit total of the season with 13 in the 6-1 victory. Four TU players hit multi-hit games, led by sophomore Christy Watkins' 2-for-3 performance with a run scored and an RBI. All nine Hurricane batters recorded a hit in the contest.

The Vikings struck first with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Tulsa came back in the top half of the second, however, to tie the game as Watkins scored on an A.J. Morris infield single.

Sophomore Amy Van Huss started the game, pitching two innings, allowing three hits and striking out two PSU batters. Magill picked up her career-best 10th victory of the season. She is now tied for the most wins in a career at TU. Magill struck out four batters and allowed three hits in her five innings of work.

Tulsa is now 13-40, 3-11 WAC on the season. PSU is 20-35, 5-11 WAC. The two teams conclude their series with a double header on Sunday in Portland beginning at 2 p.m.
