Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Men's Soccer Coach Tom McIntosh welcomed 24 players, including 11 newcomers, to the TU campus on Monday as the team went through its first two-a-day practice.
The Hurricane spent the morning and afternoon training sessions scrimmaging and practicing individual defender techniques as well as player evaluation.
"Practice went very well," McIntosh said. "The newcomers looked sharp during their first time out and their fitness level was very good. There's going to be a number of newcomers that are going to make an impact this season.
"A majority of the returners came back in better shape today than they were at this point last season. I'm very encouraged about what I've seen on the first day. Obviously there's areas we need to work on, but it will be a very competitive preseason."
Tulsa's daily preseason schedule includes morning practices beginning at 8:30 a.m. and an afternoon practice at 3:30 p.m. Both practices will be held at Harwell Field on the TU campus.
The Golden Hurricane returns 13 letterwinners, including seven starters, from last year's 10-7-2 squad.
TU will hold an intra-squad scrimmage this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The scrimmage precedes the TU football team's annual Blue-Gold scrimmage, which begins at 6:00 p.m. Both scrimmages will take place at Skelly Stadium.
