Track Teams Compete in Radio Shack/MSSC Invitational

Joplin, Mo. - Sophomore Shana Robinson continued her success from last season when she set three school records, by winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.20 at the Radio Shack/MSSC Invitational on Saturday in Joplin, Mo.
Robinson was on of five TU runners to finish in the top-20 of the event, as freshmen Chatney Noble and Alisha Burnett finished second and fifth, respectively. Noble recorded a time of 26.04, while Burnett recorded a time of 26.41. Sophomores Karlisha Atkins and Suzanne Smith finished 11th and 18th, respectively.
Junior Monica Joannes finished fifth just ahead of freshmen Paula Richardson. Joannes' time of 58.44 beat Richardson's sixth place time of 58.96 by 0.52 of a second.
The mile run also included five TU runners headed by senior Debbie Cardenas' third place finish in a time of 5:14.56. Junior Sarah Haskins finished fifth with a time of 5:16.43. Freshman Natalie Rasmussen posted a time of 5:19.71 for a sixth place finish. Fellow freshman Melanie Hardy recorded a 5:20.90 to finish in seventh place, just ahead of junior April Johnson in eighth place with a time of 5:23.45.
Junior Jamese James finished fourth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.07, after finishing third in her prelimenary heat. Smith finished ninth overall with a time of 9.57. Smith also competed in the long jump.
On the men's side, sophomore Jason Krueger and freshman Heston King turned in the top placings for the Hurricane, as they posted a second and a third place finish, respectively, in the high jump. Both men cleared the 2.04m (6'8.25") mark.
Freshman Michael Ledowsky recorded a 12th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.41. Sophomore Sean Szafarz finished 16th with a time of 23.85.
Fellow freshman Joshua Childs finished 15th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.24.
Three Golden Hurricane runners competed in the mile run, as freshman Blake Carpenter finished fourth and sophomore Andy Norman finished fifth in the Invitational Run. Carenter's time was 4:18.91, while Norman recorded a time of 4:22.79. Sophomore Ben Orozco finished seventh in the Mile Run with a time of 4:37.74.
Junior Jared Christianson finished seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.43, while freshman Derek Smith finshed 14th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:31.72.
A pair of TU runners competed in the 60-meter hurdles as freshman Jamal Bogle finished 12th in a time of 8.77. Junior Branon Vaughn finished 15th with a time of 8.81.
Both teams return to the track on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Missouri Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
