Tulsa Battles Fifth-ranked SMU in Dallas:
Tulsa (9-6, 3-3 MVC) will have just one game this week. However, the Golden Hurricane must travel to Dallas, Texas, to face fifth-ranked and league leader SMU (12-1-2, 5-0-1 MVC).

On Saturday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m., TU will take on SMU at Westcott Field. The Mustangs lead the overall series between the schools, 17-3-1.

Tulsa Splits With Vandy, Western Kentucky:
Last week, Tulsa split the final two home games of the regular season with a 3-1 win over Vanderblit and a 2-1 double overtime loss to Western Kentucky.

Tulsa juniors Kris Glasser (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Mario Gonzalez (Santa Ana, Calif.), along with sophomore Jamie Dabney (Los Alamos, N.M.), each scored one goal and earned one assist in leading the Golden Hurricane to a 3-1 victory over Vanderbilt. The Hurricane got on the board at the 23rd minute when Gonzalez collected a straight pass from Dabney on the left side of the goal and nailed a shot through the pipes for a 1-0 Tulsa lead. Junior Bryan Rudd (Arlington, Texas) and Dabney were each credited with an assist on the goal.

A little over three minutes later, Glasser increased the TU advantage to 2-0 when he centered a pass from Gonzalez and blasted a shot from point blank range into the back of the net at 26:21. Both Gonzalez and senior Derek Meyers (Chesterfield, Mo.) each earned an assist on the score.

Dabney added an insurance goal at the 67:32 minute mark when he found the back of the net off a double assist from freshman Matt Wiley (Carrollton, Texas) and Glasser. In the final home game of the regular season for Tulsa on Sunday, Western Kentucky tallied the game-winning goal at the 103:10 minute mark in double overtime and gave the Hilltoppers a 2-1 victory over the Golden Hurricane.

Tulsa got on the board first when sophomore Kyle Brown (Southlake, Texas) dribbled his way into the penalty box area and from the center, drilled a shot from 15 yards out to put the Hurricane up 1-0.

TU's Ryan Pore is One of Nation's Top Freshman:
Through 15 games in his first season of collegiate soccer, Ryan Pore has soared into the ranks of the nation's top freshmen and has been a steady scorer for Tulsa all year long.

Pore established himself as one of the top freshmen in the MVC and the nation with his two-goal performance against No. 1 Stanford. He posted back-to-back goals against the perennial power Cardinal and led Tulsa to its biggest win in school history.

He has continued to excel in games against nationally-ranked opponents, most recently with his second half goal against No. 10 ranked Bradley. In three games this season against ranked teams, including No. 15 Wisconsin-Milwaukee, top-ranked Stanford and Bradley, Pore has posted a total of four goals.

In all games, Pore is averaging 1.2 points per contest with nine goals for 18 points. Pore ranks among the Valley's conference leaders in points, points per game, goals, goals per game and game-winning goals.

TU Prepares For Tough Stretch Run:
After suffering MVC losses to Southwest Missouri State, Bradley and Western Kentucky, the Golden Hurricane must play well and win in its final three games of the regular season for any hope of postseason play. The only problem for Tulsa is the fact that TU must face fifth-ranked SMU, 12th-ranked Creighton and Drake all on the road. Working in Tulsa's favor however, is the fact that the Hurricane is 2-1 against ranked teams this season and has already picked up road wins at top-ranked Stanford, at cross-town rival Oral Roberts and pushed 10th-ranked Bradley into overtime before falling short to the Braves, 2-1. Regardless of the outcome in the final three games of the regular season, Tulsa will have the opportunity to play for a conference tournament championship and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament in the 2002 MVC Championships.

TU Frosh, Sophs Pulling Their Weight:
Tulsa's freshmen and sophomore classes have played key roles in the team's success this season. Freshman Ryan Pore has nine goals for 18 points, while classmates Drew Williamson (Austin, Texas) and Matt Wiley (Carrollton, Texas) each has one assist for a total of 20 points for the freshmen class. TU's "super-sophs" including Kyle Brown, Jamie Dabney (Los Alamos, N.M.) and Scott Kincaid have combined to score eight goals and record 10 assists for a total of 26 points.

As a group, the underclassmen have 17 of the team's 23 goals and 12 of 25 assists for 46 out of a total of 71 points. Pore leads the team in scoring and goals, while Brown is second in goals and scoring with five goals and five assists for 15 points. Brown's five assists are a team-high.

Golden Hurricane Ranked No. 6 in Midwest Region:
TU is sitting one spot outside the top-5 in the region at No. 6 after posting a 1-1 record last week. After earning the top spot in the Midwest Region for the first time in school history on Sept. 9, Tulsa was ranked fifth among the region's top-5 teams for seven straight weeks. This week, TU is ranked behind MVC rivals SMU, Creighton and Bradley respectively, while Saint Louis is tied for third with Bradley and New Mexico holds down the No. 5 spot.

Six NCAA Tournament Teams Down, Two to go; TU Boasts 4-2 Mark Against 2001 Postseason Teams:
The Golden Hurricane has a 4-2 record against 2001 NCAA Tournament teams this season. Tulsa defeated 2001 Final Four participant Stanford, UW-Milwaukee, UMKC, who reached the second round, and Gonzaga, and lost to UAB and California. TU has two games remaining this season against 2001 postseason teams, including SMU and Creighton.

Player Notes:
Senior Derek Meyers has started all 63 games he has appeared in during his four-year career for the Hurricane.

With freshman sensation Ryan Pore, the Hurricane's leading scorer with nine goals for 18 points, sidelined with an injury, Kris Glasser made his first two starts of the season against Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky. Glasser scored one goal and picked up an assist on another goal to finish with three points against Vandy.
