Tulsa Soccer Duo Named to Missouri Valley Scholar-Athlete Team

Tulsa, Okla. - Hurricane student-athletes Brent Salter and Michael Haynes earned Missouri Valley Conference 2002 Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention honors.
Salter, a four-year letterwinner and three year starter from Conway, Arkansas, is a two-time recipient of honorable mention honors, earning honors his sophomore year, and was selected to the MVC Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete Team last year. Salter has also been a three-time selection to the Verizon Academic All-District VI At-Large First Team and is a three-time member of the TU Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Salter started 53 of 56 career games, including all 13 contests this season. In 2002, he helped the Golden Hurricane to a 10-8 overall record and played a key role in TU's 3-1 triumph over top-ranked Stanford, as well as guiding Tulsa to a No. 12 ranking earlier in the season, which was the program's highest national ranking. For the year, he recorded 84 saves, two shutouts, a goals-against-average of 1.52 and a saves percentage of .760. He also registered one assist from his goalkeeper spot in 2002.
Salter has maintained a 3.51 grade-point-average (GPA) in finance.
A two-year starter and letterwinner from Coppell, Texas, Haynes is a first-time recipient of honorable mention honors and was selected to the Verizon Academic All-District VI At-Large First Team this season. Last year, he was named to the TU's Dean's List as a freshman. In his second season at Tulsa, Haynes started every game and has started 35 of 37 for his career. This past season, he anchored TU's defensive backfield and helped the team to two shutouts and a 4-4 record against 2001 NCAA postseason teams. Last season, he was TU's Defensive Player of the Year and was named as a National Freshmen to Watch by CollegeSoccerNews.com.
Haynes is a business major with a 3.77 GPA.
