Tulsa, Boise State and Rice Advance to Men's Semifinals

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Despite delays due to weather, all three men's tennis quarterfinal matches at the 2002 Western Athletic Conference Tennis Championships were completed with Boise State, Rice and Tulsa advancing to Saturday's semifinals.
In the first men's match, fifth-seeded Boise State completed the second upset of the day, defeating fourth-seeded Fresno State, 4-2. The ninth-seeded San Jose State women's team upended eighth-seeded Hawai`i, 4-2. Boise State (11-12) won three of its four singles matches in straight sets in the win. The Broncos will take on top-seeded and 30th-ranked SMU Saturday at 10 a.m. SMU earned a first-round bye and was the only one of the seven men's teams not in action on Friday.
In the second men's match, third-seeded Rice won the doubles point and went on to capture the 4-2 win over sixth-seeded Hawai`i. The Owls (13-13) won three of five singles matches that were completed from the Wahine (16-11), as well as the doubles point.
The last piece of the semifinal puzzle was second-seeded Tulsa (15-10) who defeated seventh-seeded Nevada (6-17), 4-0. The Golden Hurricane was the only men's team to not lose a match. Tulsa opened the match outside, winning two doubles matches for the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead. After the rain resumed, the Golden Hurricane continued its strong play indoors winning singles matches at the first three positions. Seniors Pawel Sebastyanski, Dane McGregor, along with junior Ryan Livesay, each captured the No. 1 - 3 positions, respectively. No Tulsa player lost more than four games in a set. Tulsa faces Rice in the second semifinal, Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
