Tulsa's McNamara Resigns Coaching Position

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Melissa McNamara has resigned as women's golf coach at The University of Tulsa to accept a similar position as head golf coach at Arizona State University. She took over as Tulsa's golf coach in August 2000.

In two seasons at Tulsa, McNamara's teams won seven titles in 22 tournaments and was ranked as high as third nationally in the 2001-02 season. Her team's placed 10th (2002) and 12th (2001) in the last two NCAA Tournaments.

This past season, McNamara led the Hurricane to the Western Athletic Conference Championship and NCAA Central Regional titles, as well as winning three other tournament crowns. In her first year, McNamara guided the Hurricane to the 2001 WAC crown with a 25-stroke victory. She guided the Hurricane to back-to-back wins with a first-place performance at the NCAA Central Regional.

McNamara earned WAC Coach of the Year honors in each of her two seasons at Tulsa. She succeeded her mother, Dale, who retired after the 1999-00 season following 26 seasons and four national championships as the Tulsa coach.

A 1988 Tulsa graduate, McNamara was a four-time All-America performer. She earned first-team honors in 1988 after leading the Hurricane to the NCAA title while winning individual medallist honors.
