Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa junior forward Kyle Brown has been selected to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Justin Durst was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 13-19.
A native of Southlake, Texas, Brown led the 15th-ranked Golden Hurricane to its first win over SMU since 1998 with his overtime goal that propelled TU past SMU, 1-0. With just over two minutes remaining in the first overtime period, Brown rebounded a missed shot from classmate Jamie Dabney and blasted the game-winner from eight yards out to the top center of the net. Two weeks ago, Brown was named the MVC Offensive Player of the Week and to the Soccer America National Team of the Week for Sept. 29-Oct. 5.
Durst made his first start in a Tulsa uniform a memorable one. In a pivotal MVC game against SMU, he started and played the entire 97:57 and collected three saves on the night, but more importantly, he held the SMU Mustangs scoreless to post his first shutout at TU. Durst, who hails from Destin Fla., made two saves in the second half and one in the overtime to thwart an SMU goal. He is the first Golden Hurricane goalkeeper to hold the Ponies scoreless since Jeff McKeever in 1998.
After playing the majority of the season behind 13-game starter Terry Boss, Durst had made two appearances in the last three games. He has five saves in 121:53 for a 0.00 GAA. Durst transferred to Tulsa from TCU prior to the 2003 campaign. He played one full season for the Horned Frogs during the 2002 season.
The Tulsa men's soccer team (10-3-1, 4-0-1 MVC) is ranked No. 12 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) coaches poll. TU tied the record twice this season for the highest national ranking in school history at No. 12. TU also ranked as high as No. 12 last season. Tulsa broke into the top-25 six weeks ago at No. 21 and has been ranked No. 21, No. 20, No. 19, No. 22, No. 12, No. 15 and currently No. 12.
