Rice Defeats Hurricane in WAC Volleyball Regular-Season Finale

Houston, Texas - The University of Tulsa volleyball squad lost its Western Athletic Conference season finale to Rice on Saturday, however not all was lost. The Golden Hurricane was still able to secure only its second bid to the WAC Tournament in school history. Rice won Saturday's match, 3-0 (30-19, 30-28, 31-29) before a crowd of 328 at Autry Court in Houston.
Junior Lindsay Eaves led the Golden Hurricane with 18 kills, while senior Nathalia Araujo contributed 13 digs. Junior Vanessa Thon posted 46 assists and 10 digs for her 13th double-double of the season.
Tulsa will head into next week's WAC Tournament as the No. 8-seed, taking on the nation's No. 2-ranked, and top-seeded, Hawaii in the first round. The 2003 tournament will be held in Reno, Nev. 20-23.
Following a break for Thanksgiving, TU will conclude the 2003 regular-season by traveling to Arkansas for a non-conference match at 7 p.m., on Nov. 28.
