Tulsa Golfers Finish in Fourth Place at Puerto Rico Classic

Humacao, Puerto Rico - The University of Tulsa women finished in fourth place, after beginning the final round in ninth place at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Tulsa carded its second straight round of 299 to finish with a 905 total for the 54-hole tournament at the par 72 Palmas Del Mar Country Club.
Tulsa junior Suzie Fisher climbed into second place with a final round 73 for a two-over par 218, tying with South Carolina's Kristy McPherson and Florida's Aimee Cho. Fisher had earlier rounds of 73-72, and began the final round in fourth place. It was her best career finish as a collegian. Duke's Kristina Engstrom captured the individual title with a one-under par 215.
Julie Tvede, another junior, was Tulsa's next finisher placing in a four-way tie for 14th place. She shot a final round 76 and finished with an eight-over par 224 score. Freshman Christine Fernandez placed 30th overall with a 229 total, after carding a final round 76. Another freshman, Cas Bridge, had her best round of the tournament on Saturday with a 74 and finished in 50th place, while freshman Courtney Jones placed 70th for the Hurricane with a final round 86.
The Duke Blue Devils led from start to finish, claiming a 29-stroke victory with an eight-over par 872 total. Georgia placed second at 901, followed by Florida's 903, Tulsa at 905, and Texas and Kent State tying for fifth place with 907 totals.
Tulsa is in action next at the Bryan Invitational, March 28-30.
