Hurricane Dominates Spartans, 6-1

Tulsa, Okla. - The 56th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team dominated 71st-ranked Michigan State, 6-1, on Thursday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on The University of Tulsa campus.
In doubles competition, Tulsa's 48th-ranked doubles tandem, Ryan Livesay and Dustin Taylor, defeated Michigan State's Adam Hourani and Jimmy McGuire, 8-2, at the No. 1 position. Also for TU, Aleksander Charpantidis and Alejandro Tejerina defeated Andrew Formanczyk and Chris Mitchell, 8-3, at the No. 3 position to win the doubles point.
The Golden Hurricane defeated the Spartans in the No. 1 through No. 5 singles positions, only dropping one point on the day. TU's 38th-ranked Tejerina defeated Mitchell, 6-2, 6-3, while 70th-ranked Taylor easily defeated 120th-ranked Goran Topalo, 6-2, 6-1. Livesay defeated Cameron Marshall, 6-1, 6-4, to round up the top-half of the lineup.
Shunsuke Shimizu and Tom Murray, on the other hand, went into three sets to earn their victories over Eric Simonton and McGuire, respectively. Shimizu, who after dropping the first set, came from behind and ended the match strong, posting a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, victory. Murray netted a tough, 7-6, first set and then split, 1-6, in the second. Murray, however, ended with a dominating, 6-0, third set to win the match.
Tulsa continues match play tomorrow, facing Drake and Cowley County beginning at 12 noon and 6:00 p.m., respectively.
