Tulsa Women Compete for Chance at NCAA Championships

Lincoln, Nebraska - The Tulsa women golfers will defend its regional title at the 2003 NCAA Central Regional Golf Championship, May 8-10, in a field of 21 teams at the par-72 Firehorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Eight teams and two individuals will advance from the Central Regional to the NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship, May 20-23, at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana.
The Golden Hurricane is making its 26th national tournament appearance. Tulsa enters the regional event after winning back-to-back Central Regional crowns the last two seasons. Last year, in East Lansing, Mich., Tulsa jumped from ninth-place after the first round to win the title with a final round two-under par 290.
Tulsa is coming off its fifth straight Western Athletic Conference Championship. The Golden Hurricane shot rounds of 305-309-300 for a 914 total to claim the WAC Championship, April 21-23, at the Kapolei Golf Course in Kapolei, Hawaii. Junior Julie Tvede garnered individual medalist honors with a two-over par 218 score, carding rounds of 74-74-70. Freshman Courtney Jones turned in her finest performance of the season with a seventh-place score of 232, while junior Suzie Fisher's 233 score was good for ninth place.
At last year's Central Regional, Fisher and Tvede each turned in 11th place performances, while senior Stacy Prammanasudh won the individual crown. Fisher and Tvede carded 15-over par scores of 231 a year ago.
Eight teams ranked among the nation's top-25 in the GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings will participate in the Central Region including #4 Texas, #8 Califorrnia, #10 Tennessee, #11 Florida, #12 New Mexico, #18 Tulsa, #21 Oklahoma and #22 Purdue.
The two other NCAA regional sites are in North Carolina (east region) and Arizona (west region).
