Marietta, Ga - The University of Tulsa softball team dropped its first two games of the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic on Friday, losing to Georgia State, 2-1, and Bowling Green State, 1-0. It was the first time all season that TU was held to only one run in two games. The Hurricane stranded a total of 13 runners on the day, including leaving the bases loaded twice against GSU.

Against the Panthers, a lead off double in the top of the first followed by a fielding error by TU put the Golden Hurricane in a hole early. GSU upped its lead to 2-0 in the top of the fifth on a leadoff home run. Tulsa was able to cut the deficit in half during the bottom of the fifth, after loading the bases with no outs.

Freshman Angela Osbon started the TU fifth with a walk, while fellow freshman Lindsay Galloway reached on an error. Junior Holly Reynolds loaded the bases with a bunt single before the Panthers could record an out. Junior Stacey Walkingstick hit a one-out sacrifice fly to score Osbon.

Tulsa would also load the bases again in the bottom of the seventh inning, but could not score the tying run. The Hurricane stranded a total of nine runners against GSU, after recording seven hits in the contest. Reynolds posted two hits for TU, while Osbon's double was Tulsa's only extra-base hit.

Five Hurricane hitters recorded hits for TU against the Falcons of BGSU, including sophomore Katie Torres with a double. However, TU could not advance a runner past second base. Junior Ami Day pitched all six innings for Tulsa, giving up a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth for the only run of the game. Tulsa out hit BGSU, 5-4, in the contest.

TU will continue with pool play on Saturday with games against Eastern Illinois at 12 p.m., and North Carolina State at 4 p.m.

The Hurricane will return to the friendly confines of the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex on Wednesday, March 24, for a single game with Oklahoma State. TU then opens Western Athletic Conference play by hosting Louisiana Tech on Saturday, March 27.
