Tulsa, Okla. - The Tulsa women's rowing team will host the inaugural Oklahoma Cup Regatta this Saturday, April 24th, beginning at 9:00 a.m., at the TU boathouse at Zink Lake on the Arkansas River.

Crews participating in the regatta include Oklahoma City University, the club team from The University of Oklahoma, Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors, the Oklahoma Association for Rowing Juniors and The University of Tulsa.

"We are excited to host this regatta," said Head Coach Kevin Harris. "The Oklahoma Cup will not only promote rowing throughout this region, it will give us an opportunity to showcase our talents in Tulsa and acknowledge our supporters in a tangible way."

Fourteen races are scheduled, including a Men's and Women's Single race, a Men's and Women's Pair race, a Men's and Women's Novice 4+ race, a Men's Open 4+ race, a Women's Varsity 4+ race, a Women's Lightweight 4+ race, a Women's 4x race, a Women's Junior 4+ race, a Men's and Women's 8+ race, and a Mixed 8+ race. The overall women's collegiate point winner will receive the Oklahoma Cup, a non-traveling trophy donated by Sam and Susan Stone.

"The trophy is another example of the support the Stone family has shown toward the sport of rowing, as well as The University of Tulsa rowing program," Harris said.

The Golden Hurricane will also christen its newest four-oared Pocock shell donated by the Stone family. The Katie is named for Katie Westby, who was known as Tulsa's First Lady of the Arts and founded Tulsa's Arts and Humanities Council in the early 1960's. She has been inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, as well as the Tulsa Hall of Fame. Westby also provided generous support to TU, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees from 1973 until her death in December 2000.

A breakfast will be served for a cost of $3.00, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Breakfast will include egg casseroles, pancakes, fruit, coffee and juice.
