TU's Betzen Receives CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Award

The University of Tulsa's Abby Betzen received Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athlete accolades, as announced by the CRCA.

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's Abby Betzen received Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athlete accolades, as announced by the CRCA.

Betzen, a junior-transfer from Wichita, Kansas, has maintained a 3.84 GPA in elementary education. Throughout her first year at TU she was an integral part of the Varsity 4 team, assisting the boat to wins over Drake, Iowa, Kansas and SMU. She also aided the Collegiate 8 to a 29th-place mark at the Head of the Charles Regatta.

In the Sixth Annual National Scholar-Athlete awards, 124 Division I student-athletes received the National Scholar-Athlete award, which is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The criteria includes meeting eligibility rules as defined by her institution, participating in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75-percent of the season's races in the varsity boat, the student-athlete's Head Coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA and the student-athlete must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA through the fall semester of the current season.
