Normal, Illinois - The Tulsa women golfers did not have a very good day as play began in the NCAA Central Regional today at the par-71 Illinois State University Golf Course.

Tulsa carded an opening round 319 and sits in 19th place in the 21-team field. The top eight teams and top two individuals will advance from the central region to the NCAA Championships, May 18-21, at Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Alabama.

Leading the pack is the nation's fifth-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores and sixth-ranked New Mexico Lobos, tied for first place with rounds of 298. Rounding out the top-10 teams are Arizona (299), Southern California (300), Michigan State (302), Missouri (303), Texas A&M (305) Purdue (305), and Arkansas and TCU are tied for ninth place, each with an opening round of 308.

On the individual leaderboard, Arizona's Erica Blasberg and Texas A&M's Kyla Neal each turned in a three-under par 68 and are the co-leaders heading into Friday's second round. Blasberg and Neal were the only players in the first round to finish under par.

For Tulsa, senior Julie Tvede was the only Hurricane golfer to shoot a sub-80 round as she turned in a five-over par 76. After playing five-over par on the first eight holes, Tvede played even-par the rest of the way.
