TU's Gray Wins National Juniors Tournament

Tucson - Unseeded TU freshman Will Gray defeated five seeded players on his way to claiming the Copper Bowl Junior Tennis Championships Boys 18 title in Tucson, Ariz., January 1-5. Gray defeated Kyle Baker, 6-1,7-5 to win the first United States Tennis Association junior tournament championship of the year.
Gray, unseeded due to his focus on playing for The University of Tulsa men's tennis program, was using the tournament to keep in practice for the upcoming duels season. TU men's tennis team head coach Vince Westbrook said of Gray's accomplishments, "Will winning a national tournament is good for not only good for the Oklahoma but for the TU tennis program as well. It shows what type of recruits we are attracting."
Gray and his Tulsa teammates will not have to wait long to begin playing, they open the spring season with four matches. The first two come on Saturday, January 15 against Texas Southern at 10 a.m. and Lamar at 6 p.m..
