Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's tennis team open their spring 2005 season with four matches in two days. Competition for the Golden Hurricane men begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday as they face Texas Southern and wrap-up day one of the new season with a 6 p.m. match against Lamar.

On Sunday TU will play at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. again with the match-ups against Creighton and Southwest Missouri State.

"We are looking forward to getting season started," says TU men's tennis team head coach Vince Westbrook. "We have a tough schedule this spring and we start off with four big matches that will be an early test for this team."

TU's doubles combination of Aleksander Charpantidis and Achim Roth begin the season ranked No. 41 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association January 13th poll. In fall competition, Charpantidis and Roth posted a 10-5 record. They advanced to flight A finals at the Crowne Plaza, combined to upset the No. 1 seeded team of Ondrej Fukala and Tommy Garrison of Oklahoma at ITA Region V Championships before losing in semifinals of ITA Region V Championships. In the ITA Team Qualifier they gave Tulsa their only doubles win.

The Golden Hurricane men will have 23 duel matches, including 17 held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Fourteen of the 23 duel matches will be against teams ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll.
