Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa Golden Hurricane recorded its sixth tie of the year and third in five games during Conference USA action with a 1-1 draw tonight against FIU in front of 435 at the Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium.
Tulsa (3-4-6, 0-2-3 C-USA) broke the scoreless tie at the 57:09 minute mark when senior Kyle Brown played a ball to classmate Lawson Vaughn, who took several short touches and fired a laser from 25 yards out into the left side of the net to chalk up his first goal of the season. Brown picked up his third goal of the year and the 23rd of his career, which moved him into third-place among the school's all-time assists leaders.
With less than eight minutes remaining, FIU (6-3-2, 2-0-2 C-USA) tied the game when Judah Hernandez out-maneuvered TU's defenders and nailed a running shot from the left side of the field into the right side of the net at 83:09.
For the fourth straight home game and the eighth time this season, Tulsa was unable to put away its chances late in the game and was forced to settle the issue in overtime. Tulsa out-shot FIU, 15-7, in the second period with eight shots coming on goal.
Tulsa began the first overtime period with flurry of shots, including several point-blank attempts, but FIU's Shawn Crowe came up with several game-saving saves and kept his team in contention. The game remained tied after the first extra session.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second OT period and both teams were forced to settled on a draw.
The Golden Hurricane and the Golden Panthers battled to a defensive standstill in the first half. FIU out-shot TU, 5-1, but could only manage one shot on goal during the opening period. TU attempted three corner kicks to just two for the Golden Panthers.
