TU Men's Tennis Team Gets Revenge on Arkansas

Freshman Ricardo Soriano went three sets to clinch the duel win for Tulsa against Arkansas.

Tulsa, Okla. - The No. 44-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team paid back No. 70 Arkansas for a loss in the Central Region Team Qualifier in October, by defeating the Razorbacks, 5-2, Wednesday, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

"The knocked us out of the team indoor qualifier," said Head Coach Vince Westbrook. "It's always nice to get paybacks."

The Hurricane was looking to win their 10th home match of the season, and began in doubles in dominating fashion by sweeping the doubles matches. Lucques Maasdorp and Ricardo Soriano defeated Tally Parker and Evan Clark, 8-2. Diego Camacho and Andy Connelly won their 15th match of the season as they posted an 8-5 win over Imraan Ismail and Matt Roberts. Achim Roth and Aleksander Charpantidis closed out the doubles point sweep by posting a 9-7 victory over Rohan Gajjar and Adrians Zguns.

Taking the 1-0 lead into singles, Tulsa's momentum was halted as Charpantidis lost to Zguns in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, tying the match at one. Federico Soriano got the Golden Hurricane back into the lead as he defeated Michael Jung, 6-3, 6-3.

The final four singles matches of the duel went to three sets. Arkansas's No. 57-ranked Gajjar defeated Roth, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, to tie the match at two. Will Gray won his 26th match of the season as he beat Jimmy Khougassian, 6-7, 7-2, 6-3, giving Tulsa the lead. The win places win in a five-way tie for eighth place on Tulsa's single-season top-10 list.

Ricardo Soriano clinched the duel match for Tulsa has he defeated Roberts in a three-set thriller, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6(6). Camacho finished off the night for the Golden Hurricane with a 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 win over Ismail.

"Arkansas is always tough to play," said Westbrook. "They are a very classy team but we fought hard and finally got things to go our way."

The TU men improve to 12-8 on the season and will travel to Texas to face SMU and TCU this weekend.
