The University of Tulsa (1-0) women's basketball team will continue its season-opening home stand against South Alabama (1-0) on Friday night, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. This will be TU's first meeting with the Jaguars from Mobile, Alabama, which are a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
The Golden Hurricane is coming off a 67-54 victory over Southeast Missouri State, while USA registered a 56-44 win over the NAIA's Spring Hill College last weekend.
Nine of the Golden Hurricane's 10-member squad tallied points in the first game, with senior All-America candidate Jillian Robbins leading the way with 29 points. Robbins also nabbed 14 rebounds for her 47th career double-double, while fellow senior Tandem Mays also scored in double figures, adding 15 points. Freshman Destanie Gardner dished out a team-best five assists.
South Alabama returns three letterwinners from last year's 15-14 team, which finished third in the SBC West. They will also be without one of their top returners, senior Raena Ellis, who is sidelined for Friday's game due to injury.
Junior Monique Jones nabbed a team-best 17 points, 12 of which came from behind the three-point arc, in USA's first game of the season. Senior Whitney Woodard posted the Jags only double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. South Alabama also combined for 10 steals and three blocks against the Badgers.
