Thomas and Burkholder Receive Academic Honors

Tulsa, Okla. - One day after winning its first round game of the Conference USA Championship, The University of Tulsa Men's Soccer team received more good news, two players earned academic awards. Senior Matt Thomas and junior Eric Burkholder were named to both the 2006 Conference USA All-Academic Team and the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 Team.
A biochemistry major with a 3.92 grade point average, Thomas helped lead the Golden Hurricane to the No. 3 seed in the C-USA Championship with one goal and three assists on the year. The Oklahoma City, Okla., native also earned a spot on the All-C-USA second team. He also had an assist in TU's 5-0 victory on Wednesday night against UCF.
Burkholder, a fnance major with a 3.94 GPA, leads Tulsa with five goals scored on the year, as well as 14 points. The Broken Arrow, Okla., native also leads the team with three game winning goals. A third-team All-C-USA selection, Burkholder posted a pair of assists against UCF on Wednesday.
Both players were C-USA Academic Medalists last year and have been members of the TU Dean's List.
