TU's Brugues Named Blue Gray National Tennis Tournament MVP

Tulsa sophomore-transfer Arnau Brugues was named Blue Gray National Tennis Tournament's Most Valuable Player, as announced by the tournament committee. He joins some of the most successful collegiate tennis players, in the likes of Michael Pernfors, Richey Reneburg, Ricky Leach, Robbie Weiss, David DiLucia, Roland Thornqvist, Chad Clark and Peter Luczak."Arnau Brugues was selected as tournament MVP because he was the most dominating player in the tournament," director of the tournament, Paul Winn said. "He always had a smile on his face, never argued, has great character and is a gentleman. In my opinion he is the best player in the country, and will be a big threat to win the NCAA Singles Championship."
Brugues, the nation's 21st-ranked singles player, tallied a 3-0 singles mark and a 1-0 doubles record in the tournament, leading the Golden Hurricane to a 4-0 win over 50th-ranked Alabama, a 4-0 mark over 12th-ranked Louisville and to the semifinals of the Blue Gray Classic, where TU fell, 4-3, to eventual champion, 26th-ranked VCU.
In singles action, Brugues netted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Alabama's 118th-ranked Joseph Jung, a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Louisville's 88th-ranked Slavko Radman, and a 6-3, 6-1 mark over VCU's 19th-ranked Arnaud Lecloerec. Brugues has registered a 12-0 singles record this season, including a 6-0 mark against ranked opponents, with all of his matches played at the No. 1 slot.
In doubles action, Brugues teamed with Aleksander Charpantidis to claim a 9-8 (8) upset win over LU's 32nd-ranked Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson. Brugues owns an 8-3 doubles mark this year.
