Waco, Texas - The University of Tulsa's Arnau Brigues and Federico Soriano each won two matches on the first day of the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate to advance to the round of 16.
Brugues, who boasts a No. 7 national ranking, took his first match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, over Dimitrio Martinez of Texas Tech before winning his second match of the day by a score of 6-3, 6-2 over Milan Mihailovic of Texas.
Soriano tallied wins over Diego Mattar of Texas-Arlington and Baylor's Dominik Mueller to advance to the round of 16.
Ricardo Soriano won his first round match-up 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 over Shaun Ellison of Louisiana-Lafayette before falling in the second round to No. 35 Joseph Jung of Alabama, 6-3, 6-2.
Tulsa's doubles teams did not fare quite so well with the team of Brugues and Federico Soriano falling in the opening round to Texas A&M's Makowski and Bain, 9-8. Ricardo Soriano teamed with Bernhard Deussner of Texas to defeat Sticker and Duplechin by an 8-1 margin before falling to Texas-San Antonio's Becker and Avila, 8-5.
Play will continue at the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate through Sunday, September 24.
