Golden Hurricane to Take on UTEP This Thursday

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa women's basketball team returns to action on Thursday, January 18th to host UTEP beginning at 7:00 p.m. (CST) in the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane is coming off a 75-62 loss to Tulane on Friday, January 12th, and has tallied a 6-10 overall mark and a 1-3 Conference USA record this season. The Miners fell, 70-59, to SMU in their last match up, and have a 14-2 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the league.

Senior forward Jillian Robbins is leading TU this season, averaging 19.7 points per game and 12.8 rebounds per game. She owns four top-five marks among Conference USA leaders this season, including second in the league in scoring (19.7), first in rebounding (12.8) and steals (3.44), and third in blocked shots (1.38).

Senior Tandem Mays and freshman Destanie Gardner have tallied 46 and 32 assists, respectively, this season, while Robbins, sophomore Dana Idlet and freshman Larrissa Williams have combined for 44 of TU's 56 blocks this year. The Miners will be led by Jareica Hughes who averages 12.4 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game. Tasha Marisett and Timika Williams add double-digit points per game, as the duo tally 11.8 and 10.0 points per contest, respectively. Hughes leads the team in steals (47) and assists per game (6.1), while Izabela Piekarska owns a team-best 43 blocks.

Tulsa and UTEP have met 16 times, with the Golden Hurricane holding a 10-6 advantage in the series. Tulsa picked up a 64-48 win over the Miners in Tulsa last season for a 6-2 mark in the friendly confines of the Reynolds Center.
