Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Women's Golf Coach Trelle McCombs announced today the signing of one of the state's top junior golfers as Bishop Kelley star Kelly Fuchik (few-chick) signed a national letter of intent with the Golden Hurricane.
Fuchik was the Class 5A state champion last year as she carded a score of 147 at the state tournament. She finished in third-place as a sophomore in 2005 and had a fifth-place performance in the 2004 season.
In 2007, Fuchik has claimed individual titles at the Jenks Invitational and the Metro Lakes Conference Championship. In addition to winning the state title in 2006, Fuchik also captured the Union Preview, metro Lakes Conference and Class 5A Regional titles.
She was named the 2006 Metro Lakes Conference Player of the Year.
Fuchik is the first recruit to sign with the Golden Hurricane from the city of Tulsa since Stacy Rambin came to Tulsa in 1996. However, Rambin did attend Jenks High School.
"Kelly is an outstanding junior player and I look for her to add great depth to our team. She is a fierce competitor and a solid ball striker. With her length off the tee and some fine tuning, she may contend for the C-USA Freshmen of the Year award," said McCombs.
On the Juniors Circuit, Fuchik placed sixth at the AJGA TPC at Craig Ranch last April, fifth at the Bubba Conlee in June, 11th at the Optimist International Golf Tournament last July and seventh at the Golfweek Top-100 Invitational in October.
Fuchik, who began playing golf at age 5, was the low stroke average champion for 2005 and 2007 on the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour. She posted a 74.16 average in 2005 and has a 72.23 stroke average for the 2007 season.
Fuchik was also a member of the 2004 Junior Ryder Cup Team.
