Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa men's tennis team continues the 2008 fall season when they host the D'Novo All-American Tennis Championships on Oct. 3-12, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. It is the fourth straight year that Tulsa has hosted the event, which is the first national singles and doubles titles event of the 2008-09 collegiate season.
The tournament features top-ranked players from across the country including Tulsa's sixth-ranked Arnau Brugues and No. 59-ranked Victor Kolik. The Hurricane also has a pair of nationally ranked doubles teams in Victor Kolik/Ross Cunningham (No. 21) and Arnau Brugues/Philip Stephens (No. 44) scheduled to participate in the tournament.
Brugues won the singles title in the prestigious event back in 2006 as a sophomore.
The D'Novo All-American Tennis Championships entails five days of qualifying events beginning with a 256-player pre-qualifying singles tournament, which takes place on Oct. 3-5. The pre-qualifying feeds into 128-player and 64-doubles team qualifying tournaments on Oct. 6-8, which then feeds into the 64-player, 32-doubles team main draws on Oct. 9-12.
Past men's All-American participants include current professional stars such as recent U.S. Open quarterfinalist James Blake (in 1998 as a sophomore at Harvard) and Bob and Mike Bryan (in 1997 as sophomores at Stanford), the world's top-ranked doubles team.
