Tulsa Falls to UAB in Double Overtime, 78-74

Tulsa, Oklahoma - - Larrissa Williams, ReShawndra Jackson and Kara Vaughan all tallied double-digits for Tulsa on Thursday night, but it wasn't enough as TU dropped a 78-74 double overtime decision to UAB at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane fell to 9-15 on the season and 5-6 in Conference USA, while UAB moved to 12-12 overall and 8-3 in the league.
UAB jumped out to a 6-0 start to begin the game, but Williams hit a jumper and a free throw, and Destanie Gardner put up a lay up to pull within one with 16:13 on the clock. The Golden Hurricane and Blazers tied it up three times before TU took the lead with 10:07 left in the half. The game was tied twice more before Tulsa took a 29-28 advantage into the break.
In the second half, TU continued to have the advantage until Christon Ingram posted a lay up to give UAB a 41-39 lead with 11:14 remaining. Both teams battled back and forth, changing the leader four times and tying the game another two times, including a three-pointer by Britney Jones with 2:06 on the clock to force the game into overtime. In the first overtime period, Diamond Rogers tied the game for the 11th time as she hit a jumper in the paint to tie the game 65-65 with 1:08 on the clock and force a second overtime.
With the game tied 72-72, the Blazers went on a 6-2 run to claim the victory after 50 minutes. Overall, the contest was tied 12 times and the lead changed 10 times, with neither team owning more than a seven-point advantage .
Williams had a team-leading 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Jackson tallied a career-best 18 points and Vaughan added 12 points. Williams and Chanel Johnson each had two blocks, while Adria Phillips earned a personal-best four steals.
The Blazers were led by Rogers who finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jones, Crystal McFadden and Amanda Peterson turned in 13, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
TU will return to action on Sunday, February 17 against Memphis. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse in Memphis, Tenn.
